The Humanitarian of the Year Non-Profit film is one of our favorite projects that we work on every year. This is our fourth year, and it is always a great experience. In the past, we got to meet the recipient as we worked on the video. But this year was special. We know Mac Bennett. We already knew what a great guy Mac is because we worked with him on other projects for United Way of the Midlands.
Mac’s passion for helping people falls right in line with the issues United Way focused on this year. He has a heart for the homeless. He created help for those who are unable to afford healthcare. He was a big player in United Way’s recovery efforts after the October 2015 flood.
Mac is actively involved in Transitions, a recovery program for the homeless in Columbia. Transitions provides homeless men and women with food and housing, and it provides services that helps these people get back on their feet. Mac helped create this program, and that is part of why he was chosen to be the recipient of the 2017 Humanitarian of the Year award.
Mac was also inspired by medical missions being sent to other countries. He felt that so many teams are sent to other countries, but there is need right here at home. He helped create a free dental clinic that serves low-income patients.
We had the privilege to be on site when Mac was helping with the initial flood relief efforts in October 2015. He spent countless hours organizing volunteers and delegating tasks. Mac proved himself to be a true leader not just for United Way, but for the whole community.
We are so excited that Mac Bennett is the recipient of the 2017 Humanitarian of the Year award. It has been an honor to work with him and United Way of the Midlands to create this Non-Profit film, and we can’t wait to see how Mac and his team continue to impact our community.
